Village Tiltai and its surroundings have deep historical roots and traditions of various folk crafts. This area has always been home to fine weavers, spinners, basket weavers, joiners and other traditional craftsmen. A living cultural tradition once was a natural part of life and everyday life, and now it is disappearing, and what is still alive is only thanks to artisans. A board member of this village, a certified artisan has many years of weaving experience and she wants to share it with everyone around her.
The purpose of the educational program
To teach to weave from willow wickers, to prepare raw materials, to exchange experience gained, to develop and weave increasingly complex items, thus protecting and nurturing the craft and its traditions.
Activities: Participating in this education, you will first hear the story of the origin of straw items, the ancient uses of crop, the tradition of using straw toys or gardens, the cutting, processing and storage conditions of crop suitable for tying. Later, the artisan will show you how to clean the crop, giving everyone a try to do it themselves. Then she will tell how to choose the right straw, what kind of straw is suitable for different items. Finally, all of you will tie a piece of work that you will take home after your education.
Duration of education: 1,5 – 2 hours.
Number of participants: by agreement with craftsman.
Place: At your agreed place with the craftsman.
Seasonality: all year round.
