Erected in Alytus in 1929, the 13-meter-tall "Angel of Freedom" monument commemorates the fighters who sacrificed their lives for Lithuania's independence. The symbolic sculpture depicts a winged woman holding a cross, representing the nation's suffering and aspiration for freedom. The monument has become an integral part of the city's history and is a popular spot for both visitors and residents. In 1991, it was restored, further emphasizing its significance in the history of Lithuania's struggle for freedom.
