Monumental stone “Normandia–Nemunas”

The memorial stone was erected in 1981 to honor the pilots who, during World War II, took off from the nearby airfield to carry out combat missions. This monument commemorates the cooperation between France and the Soviet Union during the war, and the name "Normandy–Neman" represents the French fighter regiment that fought in Lithuania.

Information about the pilots and their missions, which contributed to the fight for peace and freedom, is provided near the memorial. This is an important historical site, serving as a reminder of the war's hardships and the unity between nations.
