Carrot Candies

Candies came to Lithuania from the East. Interestingly, they were traded by pharmacists earlier - it was thought that such medicines, flavoured with ginger, anise, and dates, cure very well. In the 19th century candies were expensive, only rich people could taste them. On rare occasions, for children, the housewives made sweets from milk or cream, carrots, apples, linseed, poppy seeds and other local products, sweetened them with sugar beet syrup, sugar. Even 69 % of these candies consists of carrots.
