The Old Alytus Railway Station was built around 1899 as part of the railway line through the city. It operated until 1997, when the railway traffic was stopped, and the tracks were dismantled. Today, the site of the station has been transformed into a modern public space featuring a pedestrian and cycling path, popular among those who enjoy active recreation.
This location also serves as a cultural landmark, reminding visitors of the city's industrial and transportation history. Next to the station, an informational display tells the story of the station and railway in Alytus.
