Punia mound, also known as Margis Hill, is one of the largest and most impressive hillforts in Lithuania. Historical records suggest that Punia Castle once stood here, playing a key role in the 14th-century battles against the Crusaders. The hillfort is surrounded by Punia Forest, one of the oldest forests in Lithuania, famous for its unique flora and fauna.
From the top of the mound, visitors can enjoy stunning views of the Nemunas River bends. Walking trails around the site offer a chance to explore the area’s natural beauty and learn about its rich history. It’s a perfect destination for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
