Project I

The European Green Belt project “Eco-tourism solutions for the small rural entrepreneurs along EGB in Lithuania” aims to promote ecotourism in Lithuania, enhance environmental education and public awareness, and increase tourists’ understanding of the Green Belt region in the country.

Project concept:

  • Teach local entrepreneurs to recognize and incorporate local resources into their activities.
  • Support the development of small-scale local businesses in building environmentally friendly tourism services.
  • Create an accessible database featuring ecotourism businesses and the surrounding natural and cultural heritage sites.
  • Help develop and promote more sustainable tourism products in Lithuania within the European Green Belt area.

Planned outcomes:

  • Two methodologies will be developed:
    An ecotourism self-assessment and development methodology for local entrepreneurs, serving as a guide for evaluating and developing ecotourism services using sustainable natural resources.
    An ecotourism methodology for travelers, providing knowledge on how to travel sustainably.
  • Four seminars will be organized to educate local entrepreneurs on building sustainable businesses and ecotourism services.
  • Cooperation will be established with stakeholders in the Lithuanian section of the European Green Belt.
  • A publicly accessible database of ecotourism services, including natural and cultural sites, will be created and made available on the website www.atostogoskaime.lt.
  • A social media campaign will be conducted to promote the Green Belt as a sustainable tourism destination.

Project implementation area: the European Green Belt territory in Lithuania – Šilutė District, the city and district of Klaipėda, Palanga, and Šventoji.
