Vilkija St. George's Church

After recharging at one of the rural tourism homesteads in the Kaunas region, take a trip to visit the Church of St. George in Vilkija.

It’s hard to miss this majestic red-brick church standing atop a hill, with its sky-reaching towers. The Catholic house of worship was built in 1908 after the end of World War I, replacing a previous structure that was destroyed by fire.

This neo-Gothic church is adorned with Gothic-style windows with pointed arches, a complexly designed facade, and a wooden roadside cross crafted by folk artist J. Mikutaitis inside. In 2014, a commemorative stone featuring a bas-relief of former Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus was unveiled in the church’s territory.
