Ecotourism routes

Three carefully designed ecotourism routes invite you to explore the Lithuanian coastline and the Curonian Lagoon region sustainably – by walking, cycling, or even traveling by water. Along the southern shore of the Curonian Lagoon, the European Green Belt trail stretches through the Nemunas Delta, the Curonian Spit, and the Seaside Regional Park – a unique European ecological corridor that connects the most valuable natural areas and protects biodiversity.

A two-day ecotourism route on the Curonian Spit offers a journey from Smiltynė to Nida and back through the Curonian Spit National Park – including an overnight stay in a fisherman’s house, birdwatching, and travel guided by sustainable principles. Meanwhile, the Northern Baltic Coast route – an ecotourism journey along the European Green Belt trail – leads from Klaipėda to Šventoji, passing through sandy shores, coastal forests, and protected areas, allowing travelers to immerse themselves in the local natural and cultural world.

All routes are described in detail: suggested points of interest, recommendations on where to taste traditional dishes, where to stay (from rural tourism homesteads to ethnographic houses), and links to service providers – making travel easy, safe, and sustainable. These are not just nature trips but meaningful connections with local communities, culture, and an ecological way of life.

This project is implemented with the financial support from the BESTbelt project of the European Union. The contents of this project are the sole responsibility of Lithuanian countryside tourism association and can under no circumstances be regarded as reflecting the position of the European Union.
