Tips for travelers

Useful Information to Know:

Before the hike:

  • Choose the right route: Consider the trail's length, difficulty, and points of interest.
  • Plan accommodations: Check available options such as guesthouses, homesteads, campsites, or hotels.
  • Prepare for payments: In cities, you can pay by card, but in rural areas, it’s wise to carry cash, as card payments may not always be accepted.
  • Prepare communication tools: Prepaid SIM cards can be purchased at grocery stores, but mobile reception may be limited in some remote areas.
  • Pack your backpack properly: Don’t forget spare clothing, water, food, and a first aid kit.

During the hike:

  • Choose suitable equipment: Comfortable, waterproof hiking boots and layered clothing are essential.
  • Prepare for navigation: Carry a map or GPS device, as mobile reception might be unreliable in remote locations.
  • Rest and maintain energy: Take regular breaks, stay hydrated, and have snacks on hand.

Behavior in nature and cities:

  • Respect nature: Leave no trash, avoid disturbing animal habitats, and stick to marked trails.
  • Tourist information: Cities and towns have tourist information centers where you can get maps, guides, and advice.
  • Tap water: Tap water is safe to drink in both Lithuania and Poland.

Cultural aspects:

  • Language barrier: City residents and younger people usually speak English, but in rural areas, the older generation might not know foreign languages. Nonetheless, they are hospitable and will try to help.
  • Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is generally good, but connection might be weaker in remote areas. Cities use European-style (Type C) electrical outlets.

After the hike:

  • Reflect on the experience: Write down your impressions, share them with others, and start planning your next journey.
  • Allow your body to rest: Recover from the long hike by dedicating time to relaxation and muscle recovery.
