Kaunas Castle

While staying at a rural tourism homestead in Kaunas District, take the opportunity to visit the temporary capital and explore the famous Kaunas Castle.

This fortress is considered the oldest masonry castle in Lithuania. Built in the 14th century, it is located in a picturesque and strategically convenient spot—the confluence of the Nemunas and Neris rivers. Settlements began to develop around it, eventually leading to the emergence of the city. This Gothic-style structure was primarily constructed to fend off attacks from the Teutonic Order.

Inside, you’ll find a branch of the city museum, where you can explore various exhibits, including a 16th-century prison. For those interested in getting a closer look at medieval life, the museum offers educational programs to enhance your experience.
